Akutan Generator Replacement

BRICE SERVICES (aka BRICE EQUIPMENT)

Subsidiary: Brice Services / Brice Equipment

Contract Value: $1.3M

Location: Akutan, AK

Dates: August 2024 – August 2025 (expected)

The Akutan Generator Replacement project represents a significant milestone for Brice Services’ electrical division, which launched earlier this year as part of the company’s expanded service offerings.

This $1.3 million design-build contract involves:

  • Replacing three 55KW generators at the Akutan Airport Snow Removal Equipment Building (SREB) on Akun Island – the sole power source for the airport serving the city of Akutan.
  • Replacing the 45 KVA Uninterruptible Power Supply
  • Updating automatic switching software in the main switchgear
  • Installing electric heaters in shop bays to prevent generator “wet stacking”
  • Implementing a new fuel system piping to the generators through Brice Services’ new mechanical division, led by Tom Fisher

What makes this project particularly noteworthy is its collaborative approach, bringing together multiple Brice companies to deliver a complete solution. While Brice Services handles the electrical and mechanical piping components, Brice Marine will manage transportation of equipment, materials, and waste removal, and Brice Equipment will provide fuel tank cleaning services to ensure optimal generator performance.

Design work began in August 2024, with construction scheduled from June to August 2025. This project showcases Brice Services’ ability to tackle complex assignments in remote locations while demonstrating the company’s commitment to serving underserved markets in rural Alaska with comprehensive, integrated solutions.
