Atchafalaya River Bar Channel Agitation Dredge

BRICE CIVIL CONSTRUCTORS

Subsidiary: Brice Civil Constructors

Project: Atchafalaya River Bar Channel Agitation Dredge

Client: USACE New Orleans District

Contract Value: $34M

Location: Morgan City, Louisiana

Dates: October 2018 – August 2023

Collaborating with USACE, Brice designed, built, and now operates an innovative, first-of-its-kind agitation dredge to pump colloidal shoaling in a cost-efficient way. The Arulaq (Yup’ik word for agitate or stir) operates 24/7, exceeds 5 million cubic yards of dredge material per month, and operates at one-third of standard dredging cost. The jet nozzles on the drag arms agitate the river bottom to suspend dredge material for discharge while deflecting turtles away from the vessel. This dredging activity reopened the channel to deep-draft navigation.

Due to our success on this contract, we were awarded another 4-year contract to continue dredging operations.

Let’s build something extraordinary together.
