Brice, Inc. successfully completed the Kotzebue to Cape Blossom Phase 1 project, overcoming the challenges of remote Alaskan construction, extreme weather, and logistical complexities, with a contract value of $24.9 million. The innovative approach included conducting bathymetric surveys to identify suitable barge landing areas at Cape Blossom, 12 miles south of Kotzebue, and creating an ice road for material transport.
Brice employed advanced construction techniques to build roads through untapped tundra and used large deep-draft barges to deliver materials efficiently. Brice maintained a strong focus on safety, utilizing digital tools for real-time monitoring and conducting safe ice crossings at Sadie Creek. With 60% local hires and strong collaboration with the Alaska DOT and local entities, the project helped advance Kotzebue’s infrastructure while reducing transportation costs for the community. Additionally, Brice’s environmental sensitivity and careful planning minimized the impact on the surrounding ecosystem, ensuring the project’s long-term sustainability.
